September 19, 1846, Ember Saturday.

"Come, my children, fear not, I am here to PROCLAIM GREAT NEWS TO YOU."
"If my people do not wish to submit themselves, I am forced to let go of the hand of my Son. It is so heavy and weighs me down so much I can no longer keep hold of it.
I have suffered all the time for the rest of you! If you do not wish my Son to abandon you, I must take it upon myself to pray for this continually. And the rest of you think little of this. In vain you will pray, in vain you will act, you will never be able to make up for the troubles I have taken over for the rest of you.
I gave you six days to work, I kept the seventh for myself, and no one wishes to grant it to me. This is what weighs down the arm of my Son so much.
Those who drive carts cannot speak without putting the name of my Son in the middle.
These are the two things which weigh down the arm of my Son so much. If the harvest is spoiled, it is only because of the rest of you. I made you see this last year with the potatoes, you took little account of this. It was quite the opposite when you found bad potatoes, you swore oaths, and you included the name of my Son. They will continue to go bad, at Christmas there will be none left."
At this point, I was trying to interpret the words "potatoes" (pommes de terre): I thought I understood it to be "apples" (pommes)  1. The Beautiful and Good Lady, reading my thoughts, repeated thus:
"You do not understand, my children. I will tell it to you another way.
If the harvest is spoiled, it does not seem to affect you. I made you see this last year with the potatoes. You took little account of this. It was quite the opposite when you found bas potatoes, you swore oaths, and you included the name of my Son. They will continue to go bad, at Christmas there will be none left.
If you have corn, you must not sow it. The beasts will eat all that you sow. And all that grows will fall to dust when you thresh it. A great famine will come. Before the famine comes, children under the age of seven will begin to tremble and will die in the arms of those who hold them. The others will do penance through hunger. The nuts will go bad, the grapes will become rotten.
If the people are converted, the very rocks and stones wil turn into heaps of grain.  The potatoes will be self-sown in the earth.
In summer only a few old women go to Mass on Sunday.  The others work.  In winter, they have nothing else to do, the boys go to Mass just to mock at religion.  The world takes no notice of Lent.  People go to the butchers like dogs.
Do you pray well, my children?”
“Not very well, Madam.”  They answered.
“Then you must be sure to say your prayers very carefully every night and morning.  When cannot do better say at least one ‘Pater’ and one ‘Ave Maria’.  But when you have time and when you can do better, say more.
Did you ever see wheat that was spoiled.?
“No Ma’am,” answered Maximin.  Melanie answered the same.
“You have seen it, my child, at Coin with your father.  The owner of the land there told your father to go and see his wheat that it was spoiled.  You went, both of you, and took two or three heads of wheat in your hands; you rubbed them and they crumbled into dust.  Then you went home, and while you were about a half hour’s walk from your home your father gave you a piece a bread, and said, ‘Take this, my child.  Let us eat it this year while we can get it.  I don’t know who will be able to eat any next year, if the wheat goes on like that.’
Well, my children, you will cause this news to be told to all my people.”
After this, our Lady crossed the bed of the dried up stream.  She repeated: “Well, my children, you will pass this on to my people.”
Then, after a pause of a few seconds, our Lady looked to the south in the direction of Rome, with an expression of indescribable sadness, as if in sympathy for all that her Son’s vicars would suffer from then on.

There is also discussion of the Secret of La Salette.
Pope Pius IX said: You wish to know the secrets of La Salette.  Well, here are the secrets of La Salette: Unless you do penance you shall all perish.
The versions published to the internet have been placed on the Index of Prohibited books and therefore canntot be trusted.  It is reported that when writing out the secret to be sent to Pope Pius XII, Melanie asked for the spelling of two words, Antichrist and InfallibilityInfallibility appears in none of hte alleged secrets of La Salette, therefore this alone disproves them as false.
