The Wondrous Childhood by Saint John Eudes, page 135: Besides this, in the Ecclesiastical Annals of Cardinal Baronius, there is related a remarkable circumstance attested by Latin and Greek historians. In the year 780, a certain man engaged in excavating some walls in Thrace, came upon a tombstone bearing the following inscription: “Chrst will be born of the Virgin Mary, o Sun, thou shalt see me again under the Emperor Constantine and the Empress Irene.” It is not know whom this tombstone covered. Some have believed it to be Merdurius Trismegistus or Plato; buyt, be this as it may, it is quite certain that the man who lay buried there had lived a long time before the birth of the Son of God or of His holy Mother.
